Osprey Modelling Manuals 19 : North American P-51 Mustang
This book covers the North American P-51 Mustang which was best known US fighter of WW2 - the long-range fighter escort that made possible the USAAF's bombing of Germany by day. Originally equipped with the Allison engine and designed for the RAF, weakness at high altitude led to the adoption of the Rolls-Royce Merlin in late 1942, the rest is history. Over 15,500 were built of this classic fighter and it would go on to make a significant postwar history. With detailed step-by-step model photography, specially commissioned walkround photography, scale drawings and wartime shots, this book provides all the details needed to model the P-51D version of which nearly 8,000 were built, half the total number of P-51s, built. There is a full roundup of the models available on the market, details of where you can see the real thing, a select bibliography, and survey of websites of interest. The Series Editor is Jerry Scutts.
