Osprey Men-at-Arms 260 : Peter the Great's Army (1) : Infantry
The administrative zeal of Tsar Peter I was such that his army was welded into a surprisingly effective military machine for its time. This was achieved by full support from an economy and administrative system which, like those of Frederick the Great's Prussia, existed primarily to maintain the armed forces. By the time of his death in 1725 Peter the Great had placed Russia among the foremost European powers, and had created a military system that has influenced the European balance of power until the present day. Angus Konstam examines the organisation, tactics, uniforms and equipment of Peter the Great's infantry troops, in a text complemented by a multitude of illustrations, including eight full page colour plates by David Rickman.
