Q : When did Osprey start publishing these military history books series?
Osprey Publishing was established by Berkshire Printing. In 1969 they published their first book, 'North American P-51D Mustang in USAAF-USAF service', starting the AirCam Aviation series. Next came the Men-at-Arms series, with its focus of famous military units, the first title was, 'Foot Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard' and this book was published in 1971. A full history of the company is available on the Osprey Publishing website. From 2014 they became part of Bloomsbury Publishing, one of the world's leading independent publishing houses.

Q : Why does this website's book cover differ from the book sellers cover?
We endeavour to provide at least some indicative image representative of the book cover. The book cover may not correspond to the book cover available from the linked book seller. The representative image may come from a later reprint or mass market cover edition of that book.

Q : When did the various series begin?
They began with AirCam Aviation (1969), Men-at-Arms (1971), Vanguard (1977), Elite (1984), Campaign (1990), Warrior (1993), New Vanguard (1993), Anatomy of a Ship (Conway Maritime Press Ltd) (1993), Aircraft of the Aces (1994), Combat Aircraft (2000), Aviation Elite Units (2000), Essential Histories (2001), Fortress (2003), Modelling (2003), Battle Orders (2004), Duel (2007), Raid (2009), Weapon (2010), Command (2010), Air Vanguard (2012), Combat (2013), X Planes (2016), Air Campaign (2018), Dogfight (2022), and Fleet (2023).

Q : When did the Osprey Games begin and what have the released?
They began with the release of Field of Glory: Ancient and Medieval Wargaming Rules (2008) and this was followed by Bolt Action World War II Wargames Rules (2012). They have since moved into board and card games, such as, Undaunted (2020).

Q : I have not received my books?
Please contact the book seller directly.

Q : I have been looking for some of the early books but I can't seem to find them?
The first books came out over 50 years ago. To help locate these books, this website provides direct links to a variety of different websites, mostly amazon sites but also sites such as, abebooks. This setup gives a greater chance of locating the book, simply by clicking through each link, and seeing if the book seller has that book available.

Q : What do the abbreviations MTO, ETO, CBI, mean?
These abbreviations mean:
¤ Mediterranean Theatre of Operations (MTO),
¤ European Theatre of Operations (ETO), and the
¤ China, Burma & India theatre (CBI).
